DATA SPOTLIGHT: Seoul Gimpo International Airport

20 May, 2020

This year The Blue Swan Daily will feature some of the leading airlines, airports and country markets for air travel. Here, using the extensive profile insights available to CAPA - Centre for Aviation members, we deliver a data snapshot on Seoul Gimpo International Airport which is once again the largest air gateway to South Korea's capital city.

Gimpo International Airport used to be the primary gateway to Seoul before the construction of Incheon International Airport, now one of the world's most recognised hub airports. Gimpo International had served the city and South Korea's travellers well, but its downtown location always meant it would become constrained by a growing capital city.

It has remained key for domestic connectivity with some limited international operations, while Incheon has seen significant international growth. But now, with international air travel reduced to skeletal levels, its domestic activity means that it has in the past month overtaken Incheon as the largest gateway to Seoul, based on weekly air capacity.
