DATA SPOTLIGHT: Algeria

This year The Blue Swan Daily will feature some of the leading airlines, airports and country markets for air travel. Here, using the extensive profile insights available to CAPA – Centre for Aviation members to deliver a data snapshot, we look at Algeria, where a strong government response was introduced in Mar-2020 to minimise the spread of Covid-19.

Algeria has recorded 13,273 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 897 related deaths in its borders and now the Algerian government has started to ease the measures it had undertaken to limit its spread by allowing more businesses to reopen and allowing public transportation in cities to resume, but the lifting of restrictions will be gradual and dependent on the evolution of cases in Algeria.

But Covid-19 has worsened an already dire economic situation in the country and the IMF has revised its 2020 estimates for Algeria, forecasting a catastrophic  -5.2% contraction of its economy.
