DATA SPOTLIGHT: Air Niugini

6 April, 2020

This year The Blue Swan Daily will feature some of the leading airlines, airports and country markets for air travel. Here, using the extensive profile insights available to CAPA - Centre for Aviation members to deliver a data snapshot, we look at Air Niugini, which this week has resumed domestic operations as Papua New Guinea's Government lifted domestic travel restrictions.

The carrier provides key connectivity within and to Papua New Guinea in the southwestern Pacific, which encompasses the eastern half of New Guinea and its offshore islands. To support this week's return of domestic flying, Air Niugini is rolling out additional safeguards on all domestic services to mitigate coronavirus risks, and further enhanced requirements in the border provinces of Vanimo, Sandaun Province and Daru.

This includes heightened security and health checks at the airports. Air Niugini's acting CEO Bruce Alabaster said: "The domestic operations will resume but build up to our normal schedule once demand picks up" with some services combined and equipment upgraded or downgraded."
