Cork Airport MD: Brexit impact will likely be macroeconomic, not operational

Cork Airport MD Niall MacCarthy stated: “Everybody in Ireland is exposed to Brexit, because almost half of our traffic is to the UK” (Irish Tourism Industry Confederation, Jul-2019). Mr MacCarthy added: “Planes will keep flying and passengers will keep travelling, the impact will not be operational but will likely be macroeconomic”. Mr MacCarthy stated it is “disappointed” with Norwegian Air transferring services to Dublin Airport due to the grounding of its Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet, adding: “Our intention is to stay in the trans Atlantic market” (Irish Tourism Industry Confederation, Jul-2019). Mr MacCarthy said “We’re hopeful Norwegian might come back, if they don’t come back we’ll be talking to other airlines”.
