Commonwealth Games builds momentum for the Gold Coast in attracting business events

Queensland State Government Tourism Industry Development Minister and Minister for the Commonwealth Games Kate Jones stated (23-Apr-2018) the Gold Coast has been able to secure an additional 47 business events based on momentum generated by the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Ms Jones said these events are expected to attract more than 24,000 delegates, with an estimated economic impact of AUD82 million (USD62.9 million). Ms Jones also reported another 16 events are still in the bidding and development stage, with the potential to add an extra 6500 delegates to the Gold Coast with an estimated value of AUD15.7 million (USD12 million) for the local economy, according to Destination Gold Coast.
