Colombian domestic market to need rightsizing at a time of uncertainty for the country's future

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'COVID 19. Will Avianca successfully emerge from Chapter 11?', stated (18-May-2020) Avianca will need to focus on domestic operations in Colombia for the foreseeable future. According to Avianca's executives, the domestic market was experiencing overcapacity prior to the pandemic. Colombia was also experiencing some economic headwinds before the COVID-19 crisis. Rightsizing of capacity in Colombia will be necessary and there is a high degree of uncertainty about how the country's aviation industry will rebound and take shape once the COVID-19 pandemic is over.
