City of Sydney chief transport advisor calls for reduction in rail access charges to Sydney Airport

Sydney city chief transport advisor Terry Lee-Williams stated the council believes charges associated with rail access to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport should be reduced (SMH, 06-Jan-2018). “With 150,000 people a day going to the airport, a greater percentage needs to move to rail to reduce congestion on the roads”, Mr Lee-Williams said. Adult train tickets to the two airport stations on the 9km airport rail line tunnel include a AUD13.80 (USD10.80) airport access. Sydney Airport said: “[A cut to the access fee] would ensure greater choice for the 160,000 people travelling to the airport each day, including the 29,000 staff who work across 800 businesses on airport”.
