China to ease international pax restrictions from 08-Jun-2020

4 June, 2020

CAAC announced (04-Jun-2020) plans to allow "some" international passenger services to resume "in an orderly manner" to further meet the urgent needs of Chinese students and overseas Chinese returning to China. In Mar-2020 China implemented restrictions barring foreign airlines to operate no more than the level of service they offered as of 12-Mar-2020. Effective 06-Jun-2020, airlines that were previously barred can resume China services, operating one weekly frequency on routes they previously had rights to operate. Airlines would be able to choose from a list of 37 Chinese cities. CAAC also stated airlines reporting no passengers testing positive for coronavirus on their services to China for three consecutive weeks would be permitted to operate a second weekly frequency, while airlines that have five or more passengers test positive for coronavirus on their services would be suspended from operating to China for a week. Airlines with 10 or more passengers testing positive on a single flight would be suspended for four weeks. CAAC stated: "When the risks are under control and adequate guarantees are received, the number of flights from eligible countries can be appropriately increased".
