China plans to extend its high speed rail network to downtown Hong Kong effective 23-Sep-2018, with previous day long train trips to Beijing decreasing to just nine hours (Bloomberg, 18-Sep-2018). Overall, the network will provide a direct connection to 44 Chinese mainland destinations. Of Cathay Pacific's Hong Kong-China services, 11 will overlap with high speed rail routings.
