Marriott completes latest step on loyalty programme integration; new combined brand name to be revealed early next year
A new era is beginning for the more than 110 million members of Marriott International’s loyalty programmes – Marriott Rewards, Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG). For the first time since Marriott acquired Starwood Hotels and Resorts in 2016, the programmes now operate under one set of unified benefits and one currency spanning the entire loyalty portfolio of 29 brands and more than 6,700 participating hotels in 130 countries and territories. Members are now able to seamlessly earn and redeem across the entire loyalty portfolio and achieve Elite status faster with new Elite tiers. As a result of the unified, single-currency, when members combine their accounts, their points balances will also combine, ending the need to transfer points between programmes. The names Marriott Rewards, Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest will continue to live on until early 2019 until combining under a new brand name.
Google updates flights and hotel search with new price comparison tool
Google has launched a new tool on its Google Flights and Hotel Search showing how prices change based on the time of the booking and the time of travel. The tool is intended to assist people planning end of year holidays. The Price Insights for Hotels lets users see how prices evolve over time for the dates of proposed travel. For example if you were searching for a Christmas holiday stay in a specific city, the tool allows you to explore that hotel’s historical prices, if it’s lower or higher than usual, and compare that price to other hotels in the same destination within a similar price range – and of the same star rating – during the same time period.
The Goddess of the night set to land in Edinburgh as Fattal Hotels confirms NYX’s UK debut
Fattal Hotels, one of Israel’s largest hospitality organisations with 38 hotels and 16,700 rooms under its management and 130 Leonardo-branded hotels in Europe, is set to bring its NYX new lifestyle brand to Edinburgh. Alongside a GBP32 million redevelopment of the Jurys Inn Edinburgh, one of 36 hotels it manages under that brand, Fattal has confirmed it has secured the freehold to the site and adjacent land on Jeffrey Street and plans a new 131-room NYX hotel and the development of 31 new residential units on the 1.2-acre site. The NYX Hotel Edinburgh will be the first NYX hotel to open in the UK.
