Cathay Pacific launches biometric boarding trial at Schiphol

20 February, 2019

Cathay Pacific announced details of its biometric boarding trial underway at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (Business Traveller, 19-Feb-2019). Passengers who participate in the trial will have their passport and boarding pass scanned at a dedicated registration kiosk, as well as having their photo taken. The biometric data will then allow passengers to be boarded at the departure gate without having to show documents. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport safety and security director Wilma van Dijk welcomed the trial, commenting: "Now you have to show your passport, your boarding card or both at various checkpoints at the airport, for example, when dropping your luggage, at the entrance to the security check, when passing the border and when you go boarding... In the future you can pass these control points more smoothly because you are recognised by your face. You can leave your passport and boarding pass in the bag".
