Cathay Pacific considering long term storage for widebody fleet

7 July, 2020

Cathay Pacific is evaluating whether to send some of its aircraft to desert locations for long term storage, as it reviews the size of its fleet amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic (Reuters, 06-Jul-2020). The carrier is reportedly considering storing more than 50 widebody aircraft outside of Hong Kong in less humid locations, stating: "We are exploring alternative locations beyond Hong Kong's humid summer climate that can provide appropriate conditions for our aircraft while they are not flying. This is a prudent decision from an asset management perspective".
