CAPA: Qatar agreement with US is less complicated than the UAE

10 April, 2018

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'Gulf-EU open skies: US dispute, fifth freedom and EU negotiations', stated (09-Apr-2018) Qatar was largely able to reach an agreement with the US since US airlines' greatest concern is about fifth freedom flights, and Qatar Airways does not operate fifth freedom services. A UAE-US agreement has a different context, since Emirates operates two fifth freedom services to the US and has proposed more fifth freedom routes. While the State of Qatar only represents Qatar Airways, the UAE has two locally based airlines serving the US: Emirates and Etihad Airways. The UAE also has two further airlines, Air Arabia and flydubai, that serve Europe. [more - CAPA Analysis]
