CAPA: Opportunity exists for Lufthansa to deepen cooperation with Etihad

CAPA – Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: ‘Lufthansa Group SWOT: largest European airline group, strong brands, but progress may stall’, stated (21-Mar-2018) an opportunity exists for Lufthansa to deepen its partnership with Etihad Airways. In early 2017, Lufthansa Group and Etihad announced a commercial partnership with Etihad Aviation Group, to cover catering services supplied by LSG SkyChefs to Etihad and cooperation between the two groups in MRO. A codeshare agreement, initiated in Feb-2017, was expanded in Aug-2017. Lufthansa’s commercial cooperation with Etihad remains limited, although the agreement was significant, given the German group’s previous anti-Gulf rhetoric. Any moves towards a deeper relationship, particularly a joint venture style arrangement, could bring significant additional benefits to Lufthansa. [more – CAPA Analysis]
