CAPA India proposes establishing independent commission for long term airport planning

22 June, 2018

CAPA India noted (20-Jun-2018) India's aviation sector lacks a clear single strategic planning entity for airports and advocated for the establishment of "an independent Airports Commission of India, which will be responsible for preparing a strategic vision for the airport system, supported by a national masterplan". The establishment of such an authority would remove the burden of long term strategic planning from the already over burdened Airports Authority of India (AAI), enabling the AAI to focus on eight key areas at the 125 airports it operates. Those key areas include airport management, maintenance, design and planning, engineering and construction, air navigation, education and training, information technology and real estate development.
