CAAC announces subsidy to encourage continued international ops

CAAC announced (04-Mar-2020) a series of financial measures to help the aviation industry navigate the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, including encourage nonstop international services, resumption of suspended international services, support airlines to fight the epidemic and financial support for domestic and foreign airlines. Details include:

  • Supported companies: Domestic and international airlines that operate international services to and from China, excluding Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan;
  • Support parameters:
    • Effective 23-Jan-2020 to 30-Jun-2020:
      • International scheduled passenger services:
      • Reward international services that were not suspended or were resumed during the epidemic;
      • CNY0.0176 (USD0.003) per available seat kilometre for routes that are operated by multiple airlines and CNY0.0528 (USD0.01) per available seat kilometre for routes that are operated by one airline;
    • Effective 01-Jan-2020:
      • Companies in transportation and tourism sectors will have their losses logged in 2020 carried over to an extended maximum period of eight years;
      • Employees in transportation sector will be exempted from the value added tax;
