Brussels Tribunal bans Uber from operating in Brussels

7 January, 2019

Belgium's Brussels Commerce Tribunal issued a ruling banning Uber from operating urban ride sharing services in Brussels (Belga, 04-Jan-2019). The ruling stipulates only drivers with a taxi license from Brussels will be able to provide taxi/ridesharing services of this type. Uber's company lawyer Etienne Kairis argued the ruling did not clearly specify the differentiation with UberPop and Uber X and did not include suspension of Uber X activities. He furtehr added the final decision would be left to the court of appeal.
