Brisbane Airport reported (25-Jan-2019) the following operational highlights for 2018:
- Route development:
- Jetstar's Denpasar service increased to daily;
- Malaysia Airlines launched four times weekly nonstop Kuala Lumpur service;
- Virgin Australia launched twice weekly Alice Springs service;
- Philippine Airlines de-tagged from Darwin to operate four times weekly nonstop Manila service with A321neo aircraft, nearly doubling seat capacity from 38,000 to 70,000;
- Jetstar launched three times weekly Alice Springs service;
- Fly Corporate launched six times weekly Dubbo service and eight times weekly Wollongong service;
- Samoa Airways launched twice weekly Apia service;
- Air New Zealand launched four times weekly Queenstown service and up to five times weekly Wellington service;
- Busiest single day for international traffic: 22,689 arrivals and departures in a 24 hour period on 22-Dec-2019;
- China including Hong Kong (+12.6% year-on-year), India (+17.8%) and Malaysia (+53.9%) made up the top three international growth markets;
- Opened AUD135 million (USD96 million) expansion of the northern International Terminal and apron in Apr-2018, providing an additional 11,000sqm of space including new arriving and departing passenger zones, two new walk out gates and four new aerobridges;
- Opened AUD18 million (USD12.8 million) Skygate Home & Life centre in Nov-2018, adding an additional 9260sqm of retail space to the precinct. [more - original PR]
