3 July, 2017

Brisbane Airport awarded (03-Jul-2017) an AUD500 million (USD384 million) airfield works contract to Skyway, a JV between BMD Construction and CPB Contractors, a member of the CIMIC Group, for its new 3300m runway. The award sees the runway enter the final stage of works, on track for a scheduled opening in 2020. Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) CEO and MD Julieanne Alroe said: "The new runway was the most important piece of aviation infrastructure being built in Queensland and the biggest undertaken by BAC since the airport was privatised in 1997... It is a AUD1.2 billion (USD922 million) to AUD1.3 billion (USD999 million) privately funded investment that, when operational in 2020, will provide unlimited opportunities for the growth of our city, state and, ultimately, our nation". More than 400 new jobs are expected to be created during the final construction phase. [more - original PR]
