Boeing, Airbus to submit offers on models for Project Sunrise in the coming months: Qantas CEO

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce reported Boeing and Airbus are still working on an RFP for development of aircraft capable of operating nonstop from Australia's east coast to Europe and the US east coast, with the two companies to submit offers on models in the coming months (Bloomberg, 11-Feb-2019). "It's not just about adding a few extra fuel tanks. The plan is to finalise everything by the year end [2019] and reach a decision on start up in 2022", Mr Joyce said, adding the selection will be made based on variations of the Boeing 777-8X or A350-900/1000ULR.
