Australia is well connected - Blue Swan Daily Exclusive Infographic

20 July, 2017

Australia's international aviation links have changed radically over the past two decades - though not always in ways that many people would expect.

Passenger numbers have almost trebled. Meanwhile however the number of airlines serving Australia - which actually dropped in the middle of this period - is almost unchanged from 20 years ago.

The nature and nationality of the airlines has however changed dramatically. Almost all of the European airlines which once served Australia have dropped out, a process that was already under way in the early 1990s. Only British Airways remains, with a once daily service to Sydney.

From a trade perspective Australia's new role is well reflected in the new profile of Asian airlines serving this market. And the expansion of the Gulf carriers has brought daily one stop service from all of Australia's capital cities to every major gateway in the world.

What will the next 20 years look like?
