BITRE: Australia intl pax up 5% in Oct-2018, LCCs account for 15% of intl pax

    Australia‘s Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reported (10-Jan-2019) the following international traffic highlights to/from Australia for Oct-2018:

    • Passengers: 3.5 million, +5.3% year-on-year;
    • Available seats: 4.5 million, +3.8%;
    • Cargo: 106,307 tonnes, +5.7%;
    • Flights: 17,265, +3.0%;
    • Aircraft movements: 17,830, +4.2%;
      • Top 10 international carriers:
        • Share of passengers carried:
          • Qantas: 17.8%, +1.0ppt;
          • Jetstar: 8.7%, -0.4ppt;
          • Singapore Airlines: 8.2%, -0.2ppt;
          • Emirates: 7.3%, -0.6ppt;
          • Air New Zealand: 6.9%, stable;
          • Virgin Australia: 6.6%, +0.4ppt;
          • Cathay Pacific Airways: 4.6%, stable;
          • China Southern Airlines: 3.1%, +0.1ppt;
          • AirAsia X: 2.8%, -1.0ppt;
          • Qatar Airways: 2.6%, +0.5ppt;
        • Share of cargo carried:
          • Singapore Airlines: 16.1%, -0.6ppt;
          • Qantas: 12.2%, +0.2ppt;
          • Emirates: 7.8%, -0.7ppt;
          • Cathay Pacific Airways: 7.4%, +0.1ppt;
          • Air New Zealand: 4.6%, -0.8ppt;
          • Qatar Airways: 4.1%, +1.1ppts;

    BITRE also reported LCCs AirAsia X, Cebu Pacific Air, Indonesia AirAsia, Jetstar, Jetstar Asia and Scoot Tigerair accounted for 14.5% of total international passenger traffic to/from Australia in Oct-2018. The LCC share in Sep-2017 was 16.4%.
