BITRE: Australia intl pax up 4% in Sep-2018, LCC market share in intl pax drops

Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reported (03-Dec-2018) the following international traffic highlights to/from Australia for Sep-2018:

• Passengers: 3.5 million, +4.0% year-on-year;
• Available seats: 4.4 million, +3.1%;
• Cargo: 98,027 tonnes, +5.1%;
• Flights: 16,717, +2.9%;
• Aircraft movements: 17,221, +4.0%;
• Top 10 international carriers:
  • Share of passengers carried:
    • Qantas: 17.2%, +0.7ppt;
    • Jetstar: 8.6%, -0.6ppt;
    • Emirates: 8.5%, stable;
    • Singapore Airlines: 8.4%, -0.1ppt;
    • Virgin Australia: 6.6%, +0.2ppt;
    • Air New Zealand: 6.2%, stable;
    • Cathay Pacific Airways: 4.1%, -0.3ppt;
    • Etihad Airways: 3.2%, -0.3ppt;
    • Qatar Airways: 3.1%, +0.5ppt;
    • China Southern Airlines: 2.8%, +0.1ppt;
  • Share of cargo carried:
    • Singapore Airlines: 16.8%, +0.1ppt;
    • Qantas: 12.1%, +0.6ppt;
    • Emirates: 7.4%, -1.4ppts;
    • Cathay Pacific Airways: 6.9%, -0.1ppt;
    • Air New Zealand: 4.8%, -0.5ppt;

BITRE also reported LCCs AirAsia X, Cebu Pacific Air, Indonesia AirAsia, Jetstar, Jetstar Asia and Scoot Tigerair accounted for 14.6% of total international passenger traffic to/from Australia in Sep-2018. LCC share in Sep-2017 was 16.5%.
