BITRE: Australia international pax up 3% in Aug-2019, LCCs pax share down slightly

    Australia‘s Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reported (31-Oct-2019) the following international traffic highlights to/from Australia for Aug-2019:

    • Passengers: 3.6 million, +2.9% year-on-year;
    • Available seats: 4.4 million, -1.9%;
    • Cargo: 91,640 tonnes, -7.4%;
    • Flights: 17,201, -0.5%;
    • Aircraft movements: 17,637, -0.9%;
    • Top 10 international carriers:
      • Share of passengers carried:
        • Qantas Airways: 17.3%, +0.2ppt;
        • Jetstar Airways: 9.0%, -0.1ppt;
        • Singapore Airlines: 8.4%, +0.2ppt;
        • Virgin Australia: 6.9%, +0.6ppt;
        • Emirates Airline: 6.9%, -1.1ppts;
        • Air New Zealand: 6.4%, +0.2ppt;
        • Cathay Pacific: 4.4%, stable;
        • Qatar Airways: 3.5%, +0.2ppt;
        • Malaysia Airlines: 2.9%, +0.5ppt;
        • Etihad Airways: 2.9%, -0.4ppt;
      • Share of cargo carried:
        • Singapore Airlines: 16.6%, +0.2ppt;
        • Qantas Airways: 11.7%, -0.7ppt;

    LCCs AirAsia X, Cebu Pacific, Indonesia AirAsia, Jetstar Airways, Jetstar Asia, Scoot and Thai AirAisa X accounted for 14.4% of total international passenger traffic to/from Australia in Aug-2019. LCC share in Aug-2019 was 14.9%.
