Austrian Airlines CCO Andreas Otto stated the gaps created in the market at Vienna International Airport by the insolvencies of airberlin and NIKI have been “filled up by reputable and strong competitors” (austrianaviation.net, 05-Sep-2018). Mr Otto however said if planned route expansion at Vienna by LCCs LEVEL, Wizz Air and Laudamotion is carried out, it is likely that the market will “not tolerate” such aggressive expansion . Mr Otto expects “blood baths”, adding: “If someone goes on our routes, we will respond… Whether all this is good for the Vienna location is another question”.
