Austrian Airlines to add one 777, launch Tokyo and Cape Town services in 2018

11 January, 2018

Austrian Airlines confirmed (11-Jan-2018) plans to add its 12th long haul aircraft, a Boeing 777-200 with 306 seats, in May-2018. The carrier subsequently plans to commence services to Tokyo from 15-May-2018 and Cape Town from 27-Oct-2018. CEO Kay Kratky said 150 employees will be hired "just to operate this one new aircraft". The carrier will expand staff by 600 in total in 2018, due to expansion of the medium haul fleet in 2017 and the planned transfer of pilots to Deutsche Lufthansa AG. Mr Kratky concluded: "We are currently looking for about 200 pilots, 300 flight attendants and 100 employees in the fields of aircraft maintenance and ground handling... Austrian Airlines will continue to grow at the Vienna flight hub in spite of the current turbulences on our domestic market". [more - original PR] [more - original PR - German]
