3 February, 2019

Australia's Ministry for Trade, Tourism and Investment (01-Feb-2019) opened consultations for development of a draft tourism report entitled the 'Beyond 2020 Tourism' strategy. Minister Simon Birmingham said the initiative is in response to a current "tourism boom" and record numbers of international travellers, addressing challenges such as aviation access, attracting infrastructure investment, boosting regional tourism and technology development. Mr Birmingham noted: "With tourism now attracting AUD136 billion (USD98.6 million) in expenditure each year and employing one in 13 Australians, it's vital we keep this momentum going by seizing on new market opportunities and ensuring Australia remains a must visit destination in an increasingly competitive global tourism market".
