Australian Govt to outsource management of Western Sydney Airport construction project

31 January, 2018

Australia's Government reportedly plans to outsource management of Western Sydney Airport's (WSA) construction project to a "delivery partner" due to "capability shortages" (Australian Financial Review, 31-Jan-2018). In confidential procurement documents sighted by the media, the government stated: "Due to Australia's strong infrastructure pipeline, a key risk for WSA Co is the availability of suitably qualified individuals and contractors with relevant skills, knowledge and experience to support WSA Co in relation to the construction of the airport... As a result of the constrained resourcing market, WSA Co is seeking to engage a 'delivery partner' that will manage and deliver key aspects of the project on its behalf, rather than undertake the difficult and time-intensive process of engaging the relevant resources in house". The airport is expected to be operational by Dec-2026.
