Australian Department of Home Affairs temporarily restricts travel from China

Australia's Department of Home Affairs restricted (01-Feb-2020) all foreign nationals arriving from any part of mainland China, effective immediately. Details include:

  • Denied entry to anyone who has left or transited mainland China from 01-Feb-2020, with the exception of Australian citizens, permanent residents and immediate family members of Australian citizens and permanent residents. Australian citizens, permanent residents and their immediate family will be required to self isolate for 14 days;
  • Limited exemptions for airline and maritime crew, where they have taken appropriate precautionary measures;
  • Temporary visa holders who are ineligible for entry into Australia under new measures will have their visa cancelled. Visas will be reinstated following the lifting of these enhanced border control measures.
