Australia is tenth largest tourism market in the world: Tourism Australia

Tourism Australia reported (12-Jan-2018) the following highlights for Australian tourism:

  • Australia ranks first globally for visitor spend per trip and 10th for tourism receipts;
  • Tourism is one of five super growth industries in Australia, growing three times faster than the national economy;
  • Tourism drives the development of regional Australia, as for every tourism AUD1, AUD0.45 is spent in regional Australia;
  • Overnight tourism spent reached AUD105 billion (USD83 billion), with 61% being domestic and 39% international. China (AUD10.3 billion/USD8.2 billion), US (AUD3.7 billion/USD2.9 billion), UK (AUD3.5 billion/USD2.8 billion), New Zealand (AUD2.6 billion/USD2.1 billion), and Japan (AUD1.8 billion/USD1.4 billion) are the biggest overnight spenders.
