Australia Govt extends aviation financial support packages

Australia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack announced (07-Jun-2020) plans for a range of initiatives supporting the aviation sector will be extended. Mr McCormack stated the extensions "will help ensure Australian airlines and operators can maintain essential air services as we map out our economic recovery". Extensions include:

  • Domestic aviation network support programme to 30-Sep-2020;
  • Regional airline network support programme from 30-Sep-2020 to 31-Dec-2020. The Government will continue to enter new contracts with airlines to cover operating shortfalls on a minimum number of flights on key routes;
  • Extending a range of measures under the AUD715 million (USD498.5 million) Australian airline financial relief package, including ongoing refunds and fee waivers for aviation fuel excise, Airservices charges on domestic airline operations and domestic and regional aviation security charges.
