Australia Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher explained (21-Apr-2017) two possible scenarios if Sydney Airport decides not to take up the development of Western Sydney Airport: “The first would be for the government to build and operate the airport itself… The second would be for the government to go to market to choose another private sector party to build and operate the airport”. Mr Fletcher stated “a key focus will be the importance of” adhering to the timeline “for works onsite to commence before the end of 2018 and for the airport to be operational by 2026”.
