Auckland International Airport commences runway works

25 May, 2020

Auckland International Airport GM airport development and delivery André Lovatt announced (24-May-2020) the airport contracted Brian Perry Civil and brought forward runway works originally planned for the end of 2020, due to coronavirus. Jet blast fences were transported onto the runway on 24-May-2020, making way for a NZD26 million (USD15.9 million) project to replace pavement in the main touchdown zone. The runway will be shortened by 1100m, allowing for the replacement of 280 slabs at the eastern end of the runway. Aircraft will continue to land and take off throughout the eight to 10 week construction project through a "displaced threshold" method. [more - original PR]
