Association for South Pacific Airlines: Regional aviation needs multilateral air services agreements

4 March, 2018

Association for South Pacific Airlines secretary general George Faktaufon said the association is working on introducing multilateral air services agreements between Pacific Islands, which will "allow airlines within the Pacific to transverse more freely within the Pacific because there are too many restrictions within bilateral agreements" (Fiji Sun, 04-Mar-2018). According to Mr Faktaufon, it is impossible to improve inter-region air connectivity "without relaxing the bilateral system because the bilateral only allows connection between two countries", and most regional governments are "very positive" about liberalisation.
