American implements new policy that restricts travel agents from accommodating pax on other flights

American Airlines reportedly implemented a new policy that discourages travel agents from accommodating economy passengers on competitors’ flights, in the case of delayed or cancelled services (New York Times/Dallas News, 08-Oct-2018). The airline’s policy does not specifically limit how long a passenger must wait for another seat on the next AmericanAirlines or partner service, although managers have been given authority to make exceptions for passengers in certain circumstances. Business and first class passengers, as well as elite level frequent flyer members, may be rebooked on a competing airline, in the event of five hour plus delays.
