American Airlines to retire 45 737s by 2020

12 March, 2018

American Airlines plans to retire up to 45 of its oldest Boeing 737 aircraft through 2020, phasing out 12 aircraft in 2019 and 33 in 2020 (Bloomberg, 09-Mar-2018). The carrier is working to refresh its narrowbody fleet in a bid to reduce the fleet's overall age. American noted: "It's strictly an age-based retirement at this point. We have some that we took back in 1999".
