American Airlines considers relaunching Beijing and Shanghai services from Chicago

22 May, 2019

American Airlines is reportedly considering relaunching services from Chicago to Beijing and Shanghai, both suspended in 2018, in response to strong demand for China-US flights (China Daily, 21-May-2019). American Airlines GM of Australia and New Zealand operations Sam Martin commented: "China and the US are the two biggest air transport markets in the world. We think there's enormous potential. We are always reviewing our network and where it makes sense to add new services for our customers, we will". As previously reported by CAPA, the US Department of Transportation granted American Airlines a dormancy waiver for Chicago-Beijing and Chicago-Shanghai services in Feb-2019, due to expire on 28-Jun-2019. The airline has stated it plans to provide a proposal for resumption of services by 28-Jun-2019.
