Amazon planning 'largest facility in the southeast US' at Lakeland Linder Airport

Lakeland Linder International Airport and the City of Lakeland, via their official Facebook and Twitter accounts, announced (17/18-May-2019) the airport is seeking approval from the Lakeland City Commission to enter an agreement with Amazon for the construction of a 285,000sqft air cargo facility (The Ledger, 17-May-2019). Under the proposed 20 year agreement, Amazon would lease 47.2 acres for the construction of a facility able to accommodate seven aircraft, with the option to expand to an adjacent 62 acre site. Construction is expected to commence on 03-Jul-2019 and be complete in 12 months. The facility will be "Amazon's largest facility in the southeast US", according to the City of Lakeland. Amazon is expected to pay USD80,000 per month in rent to the city, USD0.85 per 1000 pounds of cargo landed and a USD0.03 per gallon fuel surcharge. Lakeland Linder Airport intends to upgrade its landing systems, install five fuel tanks and undertake runway rehabilitation works. The agreement would include the option for three 10 year renewals, for a total of 50 years.
