ALTA seeks more action from the governments of Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Argentina

31 March, 2020

ALTA president Luis Felipe Oliveira classified Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Argentina as governments which have not been sufficiently clear about the measures being put in place to support the aviation industry (Diario Financiero, 30-Mar-2020). Mr Oliveira stated: "No airline will survive without the assistance from its State". The Government of Chile commenced talks with airlines but has still not reached a concrete policy of assistance towards the industry. Peru and Argentina have political uncertainties which have made it difficult to draft an assistance package, while Ecuador is being negatively affected by the low oil price.
