10 December, 2018

Alibaba logistics subsidiary Cainiao Smart Logistics Network Ltd signed (05-Dec-2018) a contract with Liège Airport to contract to lease a total area of 220,000sqm for development of a new smart logistics hub at the airport. The initial investment will be EUR75 million, with phase one planned to commence operations in early 2021. The Liège smart logistics hub aims to enhance overall logistics efficiency to help SMEs better manage exports, especially with increases in global e-commerce. The project falls under an MoU signed between Belgium and Alibaba to promote inclusive trade under the Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP) initiative. A major element of the eWTP agreement includes the development of logistics infrastructure to support cross border trade. Belgium and Alibaba will also work closely to introduce new technologies promoting digitisation of customs procedures and more efficient clearance of goods. [more - original PR]
