Alaska Airlines expects to be a 'smaller company in 2021': president

11 June, 2020

Alaska Airlines president Ben Minicucci said the carrier anticipates it will be a "smaller company in 2021", operating with "about 3000" less people (The Seattle Times, 10-Jun-2020). "We went from carrying 130,000 passengers a day to a trough of just 5000 a day", he observed, and while the carrier is now handling up to approximately 24,000 passengers daily, it does not anticipate a return in demand from business and international passengers "either in the fourth quarter or into next year". "Things will likely not go back to pre-COVID levels in the next 12 months", Mr Minicucci warned, adding the carrier anticipates "revenues down 20% to 35% in 2021".
