Airways NZ identifies Invercargill as potential first NZ site for remote ATC technology

9 March, 2018

Airways New Zealand (Airways NZ) plans to deploy a virtual ATC tower solution at Invercargill Airport, with the technology also planned to further be implemented at other national airports (NZ Herald, 09-Mar-2018). As previously reported by CAPA, Airways NZ recently partnered with Frequentis to demonstrate digital ATC tower solutions. Airways NZ CEO Graeme Sumner said a backup into traditional operations would be in place at Auckland International Airport "before we move on to a fully digitised environment" at Invercargill. He added: "The opportunity to continue to work with this technology relies on getting your customers comfortable with them".
