Airlines for America: Aircraft tariffs would negatively impact US aviation industry and economy

30 September, 2019

Airlines for America stated it is "widely believed" that the introduction of new tariffs on aircraft would "negatively impact the US commercial aviation industry as well as the overall economy," also noted it is "unprecedented" for the US government to impose tariffs on aircraft (Reuters, 26-Sep-2019). As previously reported by CAPA, the US may be permitted to impose tariffs on up to USD10 billion in European goods and services, including commercial aircraft, following a WTO ruling that Airbus had received prohibited subsidies from EU governments, harming US interests.
