Airbus: Electrification of aviation a combination of technology disruption and societal expectations

16 June, 2019

Airbus general manager for electrification Glenn Llewellyn said Airbus' approach to sustainability acknowledges "reducing our CO2 emissions as a necessity" and the move to electrification of aviation is a "combination of technology disruption and societal expectations" (The Guardian, 16-Jun-2019). Glenn Llewellyn noted that while "huge progress" has already been made with electric aircraft technology, this is "not sufficient for our ambitions, but the technology is progressing." As previously reported by CAPA, Airbus reportedly hopes to introduce a hybrid-electric technology commercial airliner as early as 2035.
