Air Vanuatu announced (07-Jun-2019) a number of changes to its international inflight catering services, to offer more options for passengers and increase environmental sustainability, while reducing operating costs. Details include:
- New range of business class and economy class meals, offering passengers a greater selection, including more dietary preferences. Air Vanuatu will source semi-prepared main course meals from dnata in Australia. The airline will also continue to source local Vanuatu products, including fresh fruit and vegetables, chocolate, coffee, and spring water.;
- Transition to fully biodegradable cutlery;
- Relocate to a new and more efficient catering centre, located a kilometer from Port Vila Bauerfield International Airport.
Air Vanuatu CEO Derek Nice said the changes are expected to reduce catering costs by 25%. The airlines is also “doing all we can to reduce the impact on our staff, including redundancy packages and alternative roles within the airline” he said. The new inflight service and menu will be rolled out across the carrier’s network by the end of Jul-2019.
