Air Niugini to focus on 'East-West Strategy' and developing Port Moresby as South Pacific hub

18 March, 2019

Air Niugini managing director Alan Milne announced the carrier will focus on its 'East-West Strategy' and 'hubbing' through Port Moresby Jacksons International Airport (The National Business, 15-Mar-2019). Key details of the strategy include:

  • Delivering further traffic from Asia, transiting in Port Moresby through to Pacific Islands destinations;
  • Promotion of Port Moresby as a stopover and tourist destination to individuals transiting.

Mr Milne stated hubbing from Asia to the South Pacific is "far easier, far shorter and far cheaper than doing that through Australia". Mr Milne continued: "From an Air Niugini perspective, the more traffic we can build on those routes, the better it is for us".
