Air Niugini suspends Kieta Airport services due to theft of solar panels powering PAPI systems

11 February, 2019

Air Niugini, via its official Facebook and Twitter accounts, announced (11-Feb-2019) the suspension of services to/from Kieta Airport until further notice, effective 12-Feb-2019, due to the theft of solar panels powering precision approach path indicator (PAPI) lighting systems at the airport. The systems were installed in Jan-2019 under a project jointly funded by Papua New Guinea's National Airport Corporation, allowing Air Niugini to resume operations into Kieta.
