Air Niugini: Link PNG Dash 8 aircraft destroyed by rioters at Mendi Airport

Air Niugini announced (15-Jun-2018) one Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft (P2-ANX) operated by its Link PNG unit was set on fire and burnt out by rioters at Mendi Airport. The event occurred on 14-Jun-2018, following an election petition decision by the courts. Link PNG will conduct a full review of the occurrence, and a risk assessment in accordance with Papua New Guinea Civil Aviation Safety Authority requirements. The airline was operating a scheduled regular public transport service to Mendi when the incident occurred.
