Air Niugini: Link PNG Dash 8 aircraft destroyed by rioters at Mendi Airport

Air Niugini announced (15-Jun-2018) one Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft (P2-ANX) operated by its Link PNG unit was set on fire and burnt out by rioters at Mendi Airport. The event occurred on 14-Jun-2018, following an election petition decision by the courts. Link PNG will conduct a full review of the occurrence, and a risk assessment in accordance with Papua New Guinea Civil Aviation Safety Authority requirements. The airline was operating a scheduled regular public transport service to Mendi when the incident occurred. The carrier's services to Mendi have been suspended, as has operations to Tari and Wapenamanda, while Link PNG reviews its schedule due to the loss of the aircraft.
