Air New Zealand CEO unveils 'Survive, then Revive and finally Thrive' details

9 June, 2020

Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran outlined (08-Jun-2020) the following measures as part of the carrier's 800 day ambition for Aug-2022, "Survive, then Revive and finally Thrive". Details include:

  • Survive: Remove NZD150 million (USD98.5 million) from wages bill, increase discussions regarding leave without pay, reduced hours, job share and voluntary exits with redundancies. Develop "new ways of working" to become more flexible and adaptive;
  • Revive: Expected to commence 01-Sep-2020, with reduced cost base to match its "much smaller business". Air New Zealand is hopeful that Tasman and Pacific Island flying could be returning for leisure and business travellers, however there are no plans to return to long haul operation until 2021 as the carrier believes "until there is a vaccine, effective treatment of elimination of the disease in key markets, the New Zealand Government will not fully open its borders";
  • Thrive: Focus on quality while operating fewer routes and leading in areas relating to climate change and carbon emissions. Mr Foran is "hopeful we may even be a bit bigger than the 70% of our former size we are preparing for". [more - original PR]
