Air France must reduce capacity on routes with rail alternatives: Minister

30 April, 2020

France's Minister for Finance Bruno le Maire said a condition of the government's financial aid package for Air France will include "reviewing mobility within the French mainland" in terms of environmental efficiency (BFMTV, 29-Apr-2020). He explained this will mean if there is a rail alternative on a city pair with a duration of less than 2h30, these routes "will have to be drastically reduced and limited simply to transfers to a hub". As previously reported by CAPA, the French Government is committing EUR7 billion in support of Air France in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
